Art
Tenon heads are found throughout Chavin de Huantar and are one of the most popular images associated with the Chavin civilization.
Tenon heads are large stone carvings of fanged jaguar heads which stick out from the tops of the interior walls. These tenon heads were carved anywhere between 200 and 900 BCE, when the Chavin were alive.

Architecture
Although most Chavin Architecture has been eroded and weathered away, because of the mountainous landscape there still stands some in Ancash Peru. These pyramids and temples were used as galleries. They were used for religious rites, storage and possibly living sites for groups involved in rituals at the temple. The site's most illustrious era was during the Chavín Horizon (from 800 - 300 BCE).
